Some people chase dreams… I had no choice but to put music at the forefront to survive my grief. I don’t talk about it often — because it hurts like hell — but everything I do in music today… is because I lost my brother tragically and senselessly to gun violence. My best friend. My other half. Marcel. We were inseparable. From running around the streets of Germany as kids, to dreaming about what life could be or even was. We shared the same bed, the same food, the same heart. He was my protector, my hype man, my mirror. And then one day… he was just gone. No warning. No last words. Just silence where my fun, joy, happiness used to be. I’ve never recovered. I have never had a best friend again that died with him. They say it get easier with time…they a damn lie. I still hear his voice in my head when I’m in the studio saying “you got this” Still see his face in every crowd I perform for. The reason I turn around and point my finger to the sky during my performance is when I turn my back to the crowd I want Marcel to know that he is the reason for this music and the progression. I still feel that hole in my chest that no song can cover no melody can erase. I see and feel your mom and dad’s pain …it never goes away. But music… music became the only way I could breathe again. I named my son Marcel, because Marcel’s name is not a memory — it’s a legacy. It carries on through my blood, through my voice, through every lyric I write. When I say I’m doing this for more than fame — believe me. I’m doing this to keep him and me alive. Some people sing for applause. I sing for the one person I can never hug again. This is for Marcel. For the little boys we were in Germany. For the brother I’ll never stop missing. For the pain that became the purpose. And for my son, who carries that light forward. 🕊️ I love you forever, bro.
